Sometimes it is hard to accept that you have been doing the wrong thing. Many people have worked hard in the name of ‘progress’ believing that their efforts are contributing to the common good and improving the lot of current and future generations.
To then be confronted with the fact that growth is not all good, that technology is not a universal panacea can be a shock too far to a person’s world view.
Rather than re-assess and re-build that world view people can instead respond with denial and anger…
